Reflection
I made revisions to the cover letter and one small revision to the resume. To revise my cover letter, I focused on fitting it onto one page without removing any key content. I cut repetitive phrases such as “I am excited” and combined shorter sentences to make my ideas more concise. I also simplified wording so each sentence directly supported my purpose. In addition, I slightly adjusted the margins to ensure everything fit on one page and corrected a typo in my resume to improve professionalism.
These changes relate to rhetorical appeals, especially ethos and logos. By making my writing more concise and correcting errors, I strengthened my ethos by presenting myself as professional and detail-oriented. The clearer, more direct sentences also improve logos by making my ideas easier to follow and more logically organized.
My revisions also connect to the concept of genre, since a cover letter is expected to be brief, polished, and efficient. By cutting unnecessary language and fitting the letter onto one page, I better met the expectations of this professional writing genre. Overall, these revisions helped me tailor my writing more effectively to my audience and purpose.
